Journalism & Mass Communication Entrance Exam

Delhi University BA Hons English Journalism and BA Hons Multimedia and mass Communication Entrance, Delhi University offers BA Hons English Journalism and BA Hons Hindi Patrakarita course. There are 52 seats in IP college. BA Hons English Journalism is offered by Delhi College of Art and Commerce (40 seats), Kalindi College, Kamala Nehru College, Maharaj Agarsen College, Lady Shriram College, Ram Lal Anand college and PGDAV college.

GGS IP University, New Delhi conducts a common entrance test for admission to Bachelor in Journalism and Mass Communication Entrance Exam. The test includes English language and Comprehension, General Awareness, Reasoning and Media Aptitude. There are many colleges that offer BJMC course like Vivekanada Institute of Professional Studies, Pitampura, Maha Raja Agarsen Institute of Management Studies and Jagannath International Management Institute JIMS Vasant Kunj.

Design Entrance Exams(NIFT/UCEED/NID etc)

National Institute of Fashion Technology NIFT conducts entrance test for admission to B Design (In Accessory Design, Fashion Communication, Fashion design, Knitwear Design, Leather Design, Textile Design). NIFT takes General Ability Test (GAT) and Creative Ability Test (CAT) and Situation test. There are more than 1500 seats at campuses in Delhi, Bangaluru, Chennai, Bhopal, Gandhi Nagar, Hyderabad, Kanpur, Kolkata, Mumbai, Patna, RaeBareli, Shillong, Kangra, Jodhpur, Bhubaneshwar. HIFT campuses are located at Patna (Bihar), Kangra (HP), Kannur (Kerala), Bhopal (MP), Shillong (Meghalaya) Bhubaneshwar (Orissa) and Jodhpur (Rajasthan). For admission to B.F Tech course students have to qualify GAT test. GAT Test Components : The general Ability test assesses the students on Quantitative Ability, Communication Ability, English Comprehension, Analytical Ability and GK and Current Affairs. CAT: Creative Ability Test assesses the intuition skill, power of observation, innovation in development of a concept and design ability of a candidate. Situation Test: This test is a hands on test to evaluate the skill for material handling and innovative ability on a given situation with a given set of materials. The written test is conducted in Feb and the Situation Test/ GD / Interview will be done in April / May.

National Institute of Design Ahmadabad conducts Design Aptitude Test in the month of Jan for admission to its B Design offered Ahmadabad and M Design program at Ahmadabad, Bengaluru and Gandhi Nagar and GDPD programme at NID Vijaywada. There are 100 seats of B design, 275 seats of M Design and 60 seats of NID Vijaywada. The admission consists of three stages 1. Design Aptitude Test 2. Studio Test and 3. Personal Interview. The medium of instruction at NID Ahmadabadis English.

IDC IIT Bombay conduct the test in Jan for admission to B Design program at IIT Bombay and IIITDM Jabalpur. A 5 years integrated B design + M Design program includes Product Design, Communication Design, Interaction Design, Mobility Design and Animation Design. The test is online of 3 hours duration consisting of Visualization and spatial Ability, Observation and Design sensitivity, Environmental and social awareness, Analytical and logical reasoning, language and creativity, Design Thinking and Problem Solving. The question paper will consist of 3 sections.

Section A: Numerical Answer Type (NAT) questions. For NAT type questions, the answer is a number that needs to be entered using a virtual keyboard in the computer screen. No choices will be shown for these questions. There is negative marking for this section. Each correct answer will be awarded 3 marks and each wrong answer will be awarded –1 mark. Questions not attempted will be given zero mark.

Section B: Multiple Select Questions (MSQ). Each MSQ has one or more correct answer(s) out of the four given choices. The candidate gets 3 marks only if all the correct answers are selected. There is no negative or partial marks for this section. Questions not attempted will be given zero mark.

Section C: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ). Each MCQ has four choices out of which only one is the correct answer. There is negative marking for this section. Each correct answer will be awarded 3 marks and each wrong answer will be awarded –1 mark. Questions not attempted will be given zero mark. The exam will be held in 14 cities Ahmedabad, Bangaluru, Bhubaneshwar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Delhi, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kanpur, Kochi, Kolkata, Mumbai and Pune.

State University of Performing and Visual Arts, Rohtak conducts entrance exam in the month of July for admission to its UG programmes in Fine Arts, Design, Film and TV and Architecture at Delhi, Chandigarh and Rohtak. Shortlisted students through the written test will required to undergo a skill test at Rohtak.

Pearl Academy conducts entrance exam in the month of April for admission to its UG programmes in Design and Fashion at all centres that is Mumbai, Jaipur, Chennai and Delhi.

Apeejay Institute of Design, New Delhi conducts Design Aptitude Test in the month of Jan for admission to its UG programmes. The final selection is based on entrance test followed by an interview.

All India Selection Test(AIST) is conducted in June by Footwear Design and Development Institute (FDDI) NOIDA for various undergraduate (UG) and Post graduate (PG) courses at FDDI and other campuses at Fursatganj, Chennai, Kolkata, Chhindwara, Rohtak, Jodhpur and Guna. The computer based entrance test comprises of Math, English, reasoning/General science & GK.

MAEER's MIT Institute of Design conducts Design Aptitude Test for admission to its UG programmes in Industrial Design, Communication Design and Fashion Design. The final selection is based on entrance test followed by an interview.

Law Entrance Exams

Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) is conducted by Dr Ram Manohar Lohiya Law University, Lucknow for admission to undergraduate and post graduate programmes at 14 National Law Universities (NLU). CLAT 2015 will be conducted. The test is conducted in the month of May and will be of 200 marks for 2 hours duration. The subject areas are as follows. English (40 marks), General Knowledge/ current affairs (50 marks), Numerical ability (20 marks), Legal Aptitude (50 marks) and Logical reasoning (40 marks ). There is negative marking for wrong answers. The NLU's are NLSIU Bangalore, NALSAR, Hyderabad, NLIU Bhopal, WBNUJS Kolkata, NLU Jodhpur, HNLU Raipur, GNLU Gandhi Nagar, RMNLU, Lucknow, RGNUL, Patiala, CNLU, Patna, NUALS, Kochi, NLUO, Cuttack, NUSRL, Ranchi, NLU JAA, Guwahati. There are about 1600 seats.
The National Law University Delhi conducts the All India Law Entrance Test (AILET) in the month of April for admission to 80 seats in NLU, Delhi for its B.A.LL.B (Hons.), LL.M and Ph.D Degree Programmes. AILET tests the candidates on English, GK, Legal Aptitude, Reasoning and Numerical Ability. The paper is of 90 minutes duration and there are 150 questions. Law School Admission Test (LSAT) is conducted in the month of May for admission to Law programmes in participating colleges like Amity, UPES Dehradun, ITM Gurgaon, Jindal global Law school, Sonipat, Faculty of Law Dehradun, RGSOIPL 3 yr LLB at IIT Khargapur and others. LSAT has 4 sections on logical reasoning and reading comprehension.
Punjab University conducts entrance test in the month of May for admission to BA, LLB / B Com LLB hons course offered by University Institute of Legal Studies, Punjab University (120 seats for BA LLB and 120 seats for B Com LLB, 12 seats for NRIs in each course), University institute of laws, Punjab University regional centre civil lines, Ludhiana (87 seats) and University Institute of legal studies PU Regional centre, Hosharpur (60 seats). The entrance test consists of one paper of 90 min duration on legal and general awareness. The paper will consist of 100 questions of one mark each. Of these, 60 questions will be for Testing General Knowledge and Current Affairs, 20 for Testing Aptitude for Law, 10 for Testing Mental Ability and rest of the 10 questions will be for Testing Proficiency in English Language.

Hotel Management Entrance Exam

National council for Hotel Management and Catering Technology (NCHMCT) Joint Entrance Examination is conducted in the month of April for admission to B.Sc Hospitality and Hotel  administration and other courses of study at 21 central Institute of Hotel Management (IHM), 14 state government IHM and 15 private IHM affiliated with NCHMCT. There are more than 3000 seats through this entrance exam. The JEE assess Numerical ability, scientific aptitude, Reasoning and Logical deduction, General Knowledge and current affairs and English Language.
Common Hotel Admission Test (e CHAT) is an online test conducted in the month of May by Edexcel Educational services for admission in 3 year BA in Hospitality management at IIHMs. The test is an objective type with 45 multiple-choice questions to be answered in 60 min. It will comprise of language comprehension, mathematical skills, data analysis and interpretation, intelligence and critical reasoning, awareness of Indian & Global Economy.
Panjab University Tourism and Hospitality Admission Test (PUTHAT) is conducted in May for 60 seats in B Sc Hospitality and Hotel Administration and 30 seats in BSc Tourism Management by University Institute of Hotel Management and Tourism, Panjab University. The test can be taken only in Chandigarh and will comprise of 100 questions of one mark each to be attempted in 90 minutes. There is negative marking for every wrong answer. Syllabus for the test is English Aptitude, Current Affairs and General Awareness, Reasoning Ability and Hospitality Industry Awareness.

CA and Management Entrance Test

Common Proficiency Test (CPT) is held twice every year and is open only to those students who are registered with Institute of Chartered Accountants of India on or before 2 April every year and who fulfill the eligibility criteria. CPT is an objective type test of 200 marks of 4 subjects ie Fundamentals of Accounting, Mercantile Law, General Economics and Quantitative Aptitude with an objective to test the basic knowledge in these subjects. There are two sessions of 2 hours each and there is a small break after 1 session.
The test is conducted in July by IIM Indore for admission to its 5 year Integrated Programme in Management IPM. The aptitude test covers Quantitative Ability (60%) and verbal Ability (40%) sections. Students who score in both the sections are considered for short listing for PI.
Delhi University conducts an entrance test in June in many cities across India for admission to its Bachelor of Management Studies, BFIA and Bachelor in Business Economics programs. The test assesses the students on Quantitative Ability, Reasoning and Analytical Ability, General English and Business and General Awareness. All the sections carry 75 marks. The total number of seats available in Bachelor of Managment Studies BMS are (277), BBA (FIA) 62 and BA Hons Business Economics is 480. Following colleges offer BMS course. Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies (180 seats), Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College (46 seats), Keshav Mahavidyalaya (46 seats). National Institute of Design Ahmadabad conducts Design Aptitude Test in the month of Jan for admission to its B Design offered Ahmadabad and M Design program at Ahmadabad, Bengaluru and Gandhi Nagar and GDPD programme at NID Vijaywada. There are 100 seats of B design, 275 seats of M Design and 60 seats of NID Vijaywada. The admission consists of three stages 1. Design Aptitude Test 2. Studio Test and 3. Personal Interview. The medium of instruction at NID Ahmadabadis English.

IDC IIT Bombay conduct the test in Jan for admission to B Design program at IIT Bombay and IIITDM Jabalpur. A 5 years integrated B design + M Design program includes Product Design, Communication Design, Interaction Design, Mobility Design and Animation Design. The test is online of 3 hours duration consisting of Visualization and spatial Ability, Observation and Design sensitivity, Environmental and social awareness, Analytical and logical reasoning, language and creativity, Design Thinking and Problem Solving. The question paper will consist of 3 sections.

Section A: Numerical Answer
Type (NAT) questions. For NAT type questions, the answer is a number that needs to be entered using a virtual keyboard in the computer screen. No choices will be shown for these questions. There is negative marking for this section. Each correct answer will be awarded 3 marks and each wrong answer will be awarded –1 mark. Questions not attempted will be given zero mark.

Section B: Multiple Select Questions (MSQ). Each MSQ has one or more correct answer(s) out of the four given choices. The candidate gets 3 marks only if all the correct answers are selected. There is no negative or partial marks for this section. Questions not attempted will be given zero mark.

Section C: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ). Each MCQ has four choices out of which only one is the correct answer. There is negative marking for this section. State University of Performing and Visual Arts, Rohtak conducts entrance exam in the month of July for admission to its UG programmes in Fine Arts, Design, Film and TV and Architecture at Delhi, Chandigarh and Rohtak. Shortlisted students through the written test will required to undergo a skill test at Rohtak.

Pearl Academy conducts entrance exam in the month of April for admission to its UG programmes in Design and Fashion at all centres that is Mumbai, Jaipur, Chennai and Delhi.

All India Selection Test(AIST) is conducted in June by Footwear Design and Development Institute (FDDI) NOIDA for various undergraduate (UG) and Post graduate (PG) courses at FDDI and other campuses at Fursatganj, Chennai, Kolkata, Chhindwara, Rohtak, Jodhpur and Guna. Panjab University Tourism and Hospitality Admission Test (PUTHAT) is conducted in May for 60 seats in B Sc Hospitality and Hotel Administration and 30 seats in BSc Tourism Management by University Institute of Hotel Management and Tourism, Panjab University. The test can be taken only in Chandigarh and will comprise of 100 questions of one mark each to be attempted in 90 minutes. There is negative marking for every wrong answer. Syllabus for the test is English Aptitude, Current Affairs and General Awareness, Reasoning Ability and Hospitality Industry Awareness.

One has an option to choose 3 years Diploma in pharmacy or 4 years B Pharm and then do 2 year M Pharm or 6 year integrated course in Pharmacy. The basic eligibility criteria is have passed/appeared the HSC (Std.XII) examination with subjects English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Mathematics/ Biotechnology/Technical Vocational subject.

The admissions are based on entrance exams. In Maharashtra CET is conducted only in the online mode in multiple sessions. It comprises of 3 papers viz (i) Biology, (ii) Physics & Chemistry, (iii) Mathematics with 50 multiple choice objective type questions carrying 2 marks each. Humanities and social Sciences Entrance exam (HSEE) is conducted every year for admission to 5 year integrated MA Course in Developmental Studies and MA in English Studies offered by IIT Madras. There are 46 seats and first 2 years are common to all students after which they get into specialized stream. The exam is of 3 hours duration and has two parts. Part 1 is an online test consisting of MCQ's of 2 and half hours duration (online test) which covers English and Comprehension, Analytical and Quantitative techniques, Indian Economics, Indian Society, Contemporary World affairs, and environment and ecology. Part II requires candidate to write an essay on general topic. The exam is held in the month of April in 9 cities in India and Foreign Nationals can also take admission through this exam only. Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) BA Hons Social Work Entrance (TISS BAT) is conducted every year for admission to 3 year BA Course in Social Work with specialisation in Rural Development and for BA and MA integrated program. The courses are offered at Hyderabad, Guwahati, Tuljapur. There are 60 seats in each campus (Total 180). The exam is an online test of 90 minutes duration and there are total 100 marks. Part A is 60 minutes with MCQ's on current affairs, social awareness and logical and analytical ability. Part B is written test with descriptive questions in English. The test is general conducted in the month of May.


Symbiosis Entrance Test (SET) is conducted in the month of May by Symbiosis International University, Pune for admissions to  ndergraduate Degree Programmes. The exam is of one and half hours duration and is an objective type test. SET is conducted in two sessions for 5 question papers and a candidate may apply to take one each from the two sessions. There is negative marking in the paper . the various papers in SET are Law, Design, General ( Applicable for BCA / BBA / BMS/ B Sc Eco/ BA), Engineering and Health Sciences.

Delhi University B El Ed Entrance CEE is conducted every year for admission to 4 year Bachelor in Elementary Education B El Ed A Course at Aditi Mahavidyalaya, Gargi College, Institute of Home Economics, Jesus & Mary College, Lady Shri Ram College for Women, Mata Sundri college, Miranda House, Shyam Prasad Mukherji College. There are 400 seats in all. The exam is scheduled in the month of June. It is of 3 hours duration and 150 marks. Part A has multiple choice questions aimed to assesses bilingual language comprehension and Reasoning. Part B is also multiple choice and tests subject knowledge in Science, Social Science and Mathematics upto class 10th.

Indian Statistical Institute Kolkata takes a national level entrance test is conducted during May of every year for admissions to its B Sc Statistics (offered at Kolkata) and B Sc Mathematics (Offered at Bengaluru). The entrance test assesses capability in Mathematics. The Indian National Maths Olympiad awardees of any previous year are exempted from writing the entrance exam.


Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) are Government of India Institutions located at Bhopal, Kolkata, Mohali, Pune, Thiruvanathapuram and Triputi which offer 5 year integrated BS MS degree. There are around 1000 seats in all. Students need not appear for entrance test if they apply though IIT JEE advanced and KVPY. Students applying through board marks have to appear for IISER aptitude test in the month of June - July. The government of India provides a scholarship of Rs 5000 to all the students selected.

Chennai Mathematical Institute (CMI) conducts entrance test in the month of May for admission to its 3 years B Sc in Mathematics and Computer Science and 3 year B Sc Hons in Mathematics and physics. The institute also offers M Sc and PhD. There are around 1000 seats in all. CMI provides full scholarships and monthly allowance of Rs 4000 to deserving students.

Medical courses can be chosen by those who have chosen biology along with Physics and Chemistry, ie PCB group. The students who have opted for PCMB group are also eligible for taking up medical courses. However, there is tough competition for obtaining admission for medical courses due to limited seats. Further, the aspirants have to qualify the entrance exams like AIPMT, CET, etc. The different options of specialization in medical courses are given below.

All India Pre Medical Test (AIPMT) is conducted by CBSE in the month of May for admission for the 15% national quota in government medical/dental colleges (15% of 24,935 seats) all over India and for 100% seats in Delhi University, BHU, AFMC,  Jamia Hamdard and for medical colleges in states of Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Madhya Pradesh, Andaman and Nicobar, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Odisha, Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh. In 2015, there was only one paper instead of two papers in the older AIPMT. There were 180 objective type questions from physics, chemistry, botany and zoology (45 questions from each subject). There are about 3200 MBBS seats and 300 BDS seats in 183 Government medical colleges and 29 Dental colleges in India . There are 215 private medical colleges in which there are around 27,000 seats.


Admission to 5 year B. VSc and AH (Veternary Science and Animal Husbandry) are accorded to those who qualify the All India Pre-Veterinary. Through this exam 15% of total number of seats in Government Veterinary colleges except in the state of Jammu & Kashmir is filled up. Christian Medical College (CMC), Vellore conducts MBBS Entrance exam for admission to its MBBS course. There are 100 seats in the medical college and 42 are reserved for females. The test is held in two stages in the months of May and June.



Christian Medical College, Ludhiana (Affiliated to Baba Farid University, Faridkot,  MCI Approved) Undergraduate Admission Test UG for admission to MBBS, BDS, B Sc Nursing and BPT degrees. There are 75 seats in MBBS course, 60 seats in B Sc Nursing, 40 seats in BDS and 20 seats in BPT. The syllabus for the online test is physics, chemistry, biology and General Aptitude. Uttarakhand Pre Medical Test (UPMT) is conducted by G B Pant Agriculture and Technology University, Pantnager for admission to for MBBS and BDS courses in various Medical Colleges in Uttarakhand.


UP Combined Pre Medical Test (UPCPMT) entrance exam is conducted for admissions to state quota seats (800) for MBBS and BDS courses in various Medical Colleges in UP.


Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (MGIMS), Wardha Maharshtra, conducts an entrance examination for admission to MBBS course. There are 46 seats for Maharashtra candidates and 46 seats for candidates of other states. The entrance exam comprises of multiple choice questions encompassing the subjects like physics, chemistry and biology. The part on Gandhian thought will be of long and short answer type.

The test is of 2 hours and consists of four pars containing Physics 30 marks, Chemistry-30 marks and Biology 30 Marks and General Knowledge 10 marks.
