Design Entrance Exams(NIFT/UCEED/NID etc)


National Institute of Fashion Technology NIFT conducts entrance test for admission to B Design (In Accessory Design, Fashion Communication, Fashion design, Knitwear Design, Leather Design, Textile Design). NIFT takes General Ability Test (GAT) and Creative Ability Test (CAT) and Situation test. There are more than 1500 seats at campuses in Delhi, Bangaluru, Chennai, Bhopal, Gandhi Nagar, Hyderabad, Kanpur, Kolkata, Mumbai, Patna, RaeBareli, Shillong, Kangra, Jodhpur, Bhubaneshwar. HIFT campuses are located at Patna (Bihar), Kangra (HP), Kannur (Kerala), Bhopal (MP), Shillong (Meghalaya) Bhubaneshwar (Orissa) and Jodhpur (Rajasthan). For admission to B.F Tech course students have to qualify GAT test. GAT Test Components : The general Ability test assesses the students on Quantitative Ability, Communication Ability, English Comprehension, Analytical Ability and GK and Current Affairs. CAT: Creative Ability Test assesses the intuition skill, power of observation, innovation in development of a concept and design ability of a candidate. Situation Test: This test is a hands on test to evaluate the skill for material handling and innovative ability on a given situation with a given set of materials. The written test is conducted in Feb and the Situation Test/ GD / Interview will be done in April / May.

National Institute of Design Ahmadabad conducts Design Aptitude Test in the month of Jan for admission to its B Design offered Ahmadabad and M Design program at Ahmadabad, Bengaluru and Gandhi Nagar and GDPD programme at NID Vijaywada. There are 100 seats of B design, 275 seats of M Design and 60 seats of NID Vijaywada. The admission consists of three stages 1. Design Aptitude Test 2. Studio Test and 3. Personal Interview. The medium of instruction at NID Ahmadabadis English.

IDC IIT Bombay conduct the test in Jan for admission to B Design program at IIT Bombay and IIITDM Jabalpur. A 5 years integrated B design + M Design program includes Product Design, Communication Design, Interaction Design, Mobility Design and Animation Design. The test is online of 3 hours duration consisting of Visualization and spatial Ability, Observation and Design sensitivity, Environmental and social awareness, Analytical and logical reasoning, language and creativity, Design Thinking and Problem Solving. The question paper will consist of 3 sections.
Section A: Numerical Answer Type (NAT) questions. For NAT type questions, the answer is a number that needs to be entered using a virtual keyboard in the computer screen. No choices will be shown for these questions. There is negative marking for this section. Each correct answer will be awarded 3 marks and each wrong answer will be awarded –1 mark. Questions not attempted will be given zero mark.
Section B: Multiple Select Questions (MSQ). Each MSQ has one or more correct answer(s) out of the four given choices. The candidate gets 3 marks only if all the correct answers are selected. There is no negative or partial marks for this section. Questions not attempted will be given zero mark.
Section C: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ). Each MCQ has four choices out of which only one is the correct answer. There is negative marking for this section. Each correct answer will be awarded 3 marks and each wrong answer will be awarded –1 mark. Questions not attempted will be given zero mark. The exam will be held in 14 cities Ahmedabad, Bangaluru, Bhubaneshwar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Delhi, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kanpur, Kochi, Kolkata, Mumbai and Pune.

State University of Performing and Visual Arts, Rohtak conducts entrance exam in the month of July for admission to its UG programmes in Fine Arts, Design, Film and TV and Architecture at Delhi, Chandigarh and Rohtak. Shortlisted students through the written test will required to undergo a skill test at Rohtak.

Pearl Academy conducts entrance exam in the month of April for admission to its UG programmes in Design and Fashion at all centres that is Mumbai, Jaipur, Chennai and Delhi.

Apeejay Institute of Design, New Delhi conducts Design Aptitude Test in the month of Jan for admission to its UG programmes. The final selection is based on entrance test followed by an interview.

All India Selection Test(AIST) is conducted in June by Footwear Design and Development Institute (FDDI) NOIDA for various undergraduate (UG) and Post graduate (PG) courses at FDDI and other campuses at Fursatganj, Chennai, Kolkata, Chhindwara, Rohtak, Jodhpur and Guna. The computer based entrance test comprises of Math, English, reasoning/General science & GK.

MAEER's MIT Institute of Design conducts Design Aptitude Test for admission to its UG programmes in Industrial Design, Communication Design and Fashion Design. The final selection is based on entrance test followed by an interview.
